As a parent or carer, you are an important part of our school community. We offer a range of services to support you and your family.
Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C)
Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising.
Counselling for families
The school counsellor can assist when families undergo a trauma or big change. Contact us to make an appointment. For information in community languages, see school counselling service.
Outside of the education system, free telephone counselling services are available to support families who may be going through a difficult time.

Interpreting and translations
We will help you communicate with our school. If you’d like an interpreter for a school meeting, let us know and we will arrange one, if available.
If you don’t speak or understand English well and want to contact us, call TIS National on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the school and get an interpreter to help. This service is free.

Participation and commitment has been displayed by many parents and caregivers as evidenced by the community spirit at Ryde East Public School. The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) raise money to help fund school projects. The parents participate in the following ways:
- P&C meetings
- School finance, merit selection, and annual school report committees
- Volunteers work in classrooms with reading and other students learning, become class parents, participate in information evenings, help with excursions
- Fundraising and catering committee successfully run activities such as the school discos, Mothers’ Day stall, a Fathers’ Day event, dads’ day on the BBQ, and our renowned annual Music Festival
- Sports carnivals and representative sporting events
- Uniform shop and second hand uniform shop
- Performances by school bands, the Musical Variety Night and participating in the band committee
- Working bees to help maintain the safety and tidiness of the school grounds
- Year 6 Farewell Dinner and gift to the school
- School Watch program to keep the school grounds safe and free from vandalism
- Volunteering as canteen helpers in order to provide healthy lunches for our students.
Ryde East Public School encourages parents and caregivers to actively participate in the school environment and embraces community involvement in the many different tasks that enrich the learning environment for the students.
Parent volunteers
The school has an “open door” policy, welcoming your participation and support. Teachers are available for interviews to discuss matters relating to student progress.
We very much welcome any assistance parents are able to offer in classrooms.
Some of the areas where parents are able to offer assistance are:
- supporting the class teacher in maths/reading groups
- acting as a source of information e.g. nurse, sailor . . .
- working with a group of students e.g., craft , art activities.
- becoming a mentor for a student with a specific talent e.g. musician, scientist . . .
- providing an audience e.g. watching a class performance, debating
- overseeing a project
- reading to students, or listening to them read
- developing skills in another language
- sport coaching, managing of teams
- any hidden talent you may wish to share.
Many parents participate in important school committees, such as finance, the P&C Executive, annual school report, grounds, fundraising, music, canteen, staff selection panels.
