Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Ryde East Public School, special religious education (SRE) and special education in ethics (SEE) are delivered on Thursday at the following times:

                      Years 3-6  10.15am to 10.45am

                      Years K-2  10.45am to 11.15am

Parents choose their child’s SRE/SEE participation on enrolment, and any subsequent change requests should be made in writing to the school office.

The following SRE classes are offered at Ryde East Public School in 2021. For more information about each provider’s SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit their websites using the links below:

Catholic SRE, provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney https://www.sydneycatholic.org/education#scripture

Greek Orthodox SRE, provided by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia

Islamic SRE, provided by Islamic Council of NSW

Protestant SRE, provided by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Uniting Church in Australia & C3 Australia

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in quiet reading.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
